What Does this pelvic Ultrasound Result Mean?

My pelvic ultrasound report states several hypoechoic area with myometrium. In Layman s terms, what is hypoechoic and myometrium? I am researching my options regarding the discovery of six fibroids ranging in size from 6x4x5 mm to 24x24x21 mm. My Gyn wants to perform a hysterectomy as soon as available due to 111 mm (length) sized Uterus.

Welcome to health care magic.

1.Hypo-echoic is an ultrasound term - as ultrasound waves are passed through the uterus that area is not giving opposite waves suggest there is fluid or low echo area.
2.The uterus is quite bulky, multiple fibroids as mentioned which needs action if symptomatic like excessive bleed, pain and pelvic discomfort.
3.The most commonly used treatment in this case will be hormonal initially to reduce bleed and symptoms and monitor.
4.If not responsive - depending on the age and reproductive condition and symptoms the treatment depends on.
5.In a female who has done with the reproduction, and age over 40+ can go for hysterectomy - treatment of choice.
6.Younger age - interventional procedure will be helpful.

Good luck.
